Thai Ambassador to China: Looking forward to more Chinese new energy vehicle companies investing in Thailand

Chengdu, September 11th (Xinhua) -- "The electric vehicle market in Thailand is vast, and the Thai government has introduced relevant policies to support the development of the industry." On the 11th, Thai Ambassador to China Han Cancai said in an interview during the 2024 Sichuan South Asia Southeast Asian Countries Business Cooperation and Development Conference in Chengdu that Thailand welcomes Chinese new energy vehicle companies to invest in Thailand.


Currently, Thailand is actively embracing electric vehicles. According to data, the total registered number of electric vehicles in Thailand in 2023 is about 76000, accounting for 12% of the total number of vehicle registrations. Among them, the top four are all Chinese brands, with eight Chinese brands in the top ten. In the field of electric vehicles in Thailand, Chinese new energy vehicle companies have made fruitful investments, and I hope there will be more investment from China in the future, "said Han Can.

Thailand is the guest country of honor at the 2024 Sichuan South Asia Southeast Asian Countries Business Cooperation and Development Conference. At the opening ceremony of the event that day, Han Cancai stated in his speech that the bilateral relationship between Thailand and China is one of the most dynamic bilateral relationships in Asia. In the first half of this year, China was Thailand's largest trading partner and second largest export market. Thailand's total exports to China reached $17.6 billion, and it is expected to reach $34.5 billion by the end of this year.


Han Can noticed the important role played by Sichuan in the relationship between Thailand and China. He stated that the trade volume between Thailand and Sichuan reached 1.3 billion US dollars in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 31%; Thai companies such as CP Group and Tencel Group have invested in Sichuan. "Sichuan is an important transportation and logistics hub, and I believe there is great potential for cooperation between Thailand and Sichuan in agricultural and consumer goods trade, tourism, and other fields

Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand. "We look forward to exploring new possibilities for cooperation and preparing for this milestone anniversary celebration," Han Cancai said. At that time, the two governments will hold relevant activities to strengthen economic ties and promote cooperation in the economic and cultural fields.
